"An athlete in motion should stay in motion"

Thursday Night Lights 08.13.09

Team Synergy had a strong presence at the track in both the Category 1/2 men's field as well as the women's field on this hot and muggy August night.

 WOMEN

Tempo 12: In this short points race, 2 points are awarded to the first rider across the finish every lap.  And one point is awarded to 2nd place every lap.  The format makes for a fast race with little time to rest.  LINSEY HAMILTON won a smart race, taking a handful of laps early on.  The real battle was for 2nd place where SANDY GRESS sprinted frequently against Bianca Bergman.  GRESS completed the race only one point back from Bergman.

Miss & Out: The Miss & Out is quickly becoming the new favorite of SANDY GRESS.  GRESS rode a tactical race and was able to out-sprint Bianca Bergman for the win.  HAMILTON  took 4th place.

Points 30: In the Points race, HAMILTON dominated each of the three sprints.  Again, GRESS battled it out with Bergman for 2nd and 3rd in each sprint.  At the finish HAMILTON totalled 15 points, Bergman 9, and GRESS 6.

Omnium: HAMILTON 1st, Bergman 2nd, GRESS 3rd

HAMILTON also finished 9th of 18 in the Category 3 men's Scratch 10.

CATEGORY  1/2 MEN

This is the first Thursday of the season that TIM MULROONEY raced the hardwood of the track.  TIMMER, well known for his time trialing prowess, first raced a three kilometer individual pursuit against Grandstay's Daniel Casper.  The race was close from the gun with TIMMER maintaining a lead of no more than .75 seconds throughout the entire race for the win.

The Category 1/2's wrapped up the evening with an 80 lap points race.  With Brain Crosby, Adam Bergman, and Pat Lemieux in the field, the race was hot from the very first lap.  But, TIMMER, using his time trialing skills to his advantage, was able to roll off the front and lap the field.  By doing so, he was awarded 20 points, enough to secure the win!!

WOMEN'S RECAP

The women took advantage of their 2.5 kilometer 10 lap SCRATCH race as a warm up for the evening.  The pace remained modest until the sprint on the final lap.  Synergy's LINSEY HAMILTON finished third to Heidi and Melissa Dahlmann.

The UNKNOWN DISTANCE is a scratch race in which only the starter knows the number of laps that the field will complete.  An astute rider of this style of race will listen for the gun to fire, indicating one and a half laps to go.  This race was dominated by a number of jumps--racers flying off the front with the hopes that the bell would ring on their lead.  However, the pack was compact when the bell for the final lap was rung after 14 laps of racing.  HAMILTON finished third.

For over two kilometers, the pace of the 30 lap SCRATCH race was a furious 27+ mph, lead out by Now Bikes Arden Hills employee, Melissa Dahlmann.  With the pace so high, the entire women's field was strung out in a pace line for much of the race.  With a handful of laps to go, the field came together.  Dahlman jumped with one and a half to go with HAMILTON on the chase.  Hamilton surged, secureing the win.

Hamilton finished second in the Omnium.  Also racing tonight, Category 3 Synergy riders, Rob "Tuffy" Danneker and Greg "Stick" Lavick.
